Our read
The reason Mills is on your board at all is one depth chart line: he sits second in Houston behind C.J. Stroud, and the sheet expects only five games of him this season, with a realistic range of zero to eleven. That's a backup's calendar, and our number puts him at 33 points for the year. There is no starter's path here unless Stroud goes down.
Last season was the same shape. Six appearances, 11.2 points a game, and he only cleared the position's weekly median three of six times. His best week was 25.68 in week 10, and his worst was 1.42 in week 5, so the ceiling in spot duty was one usable fantasy week out of six. The year-over-year jump, from 2.4 points a game in 2024 to 11.15, sounds like progress until you see both seasons were four and six games of spot duty while healthy the rest of the way. His yards per touch did jump from 3.7 to 21, but on just 3 touches all season, with one red-zone touch and one inside the ten. The coaching staff is unchanged, so there's no new role waiting for him either.
The real downside is that even his best case is a handful of spot starts. He's going around pick 377 and I wouldn't spend a pick there. If Stroud ever misses time, grab him off waivers that week. Otherwise let him go and use the roster spot on a lottery ticket with an actual path to snaps.
